MMLDC officially welcomed the Christmas season with the annual Tree Lighting and outreach last December 3. More than an occasion to mark this joyous month, the event took on a deeper meaning as it symbolized the resilience of the Filipino people in rising above the challenges and trials in 2009.
Now on its fifth year, the event was witnessed by the Center's Board of Trustees, employees, contractors and in-house clients. A candle lighting activity was done to symbolize solidarity and hope. MMLDC officers and staff took the opportunity to recognize the collective success of the center in its 10th year and honored the efforts and dedication of its stakeholders.
This year, MMLDC selected the House of Refuge Foundation Inc (HORFI) as its beneficiary, being greatly affected by Typhoon Ondoy. HORFI is an orphanage located in Provident Village, Marikina. The kids participated in the Lakbay Kalikasan, where they were entertained with a bird show and aviary tour, and were educated about proper waste management and caring for the environment.
Aptly said by Ms Leonisa dela Llana, Vice President of MMLDC, "Despite the unfortunate events that unfolded in our country, Christmas is still worth celebrating. The presence of Christ is the main reason for commemorating Christmas and we should keep that in our hearts"
